A couple co-workers and I got some release time from work yesterday to go to the Bay area to do a tour of Google in Mountain View and the MLK Library in San Jose.  In what could be considered a bit of an understatement, Google sure looks like an interesting place to work.  Seemed like the average age of the workers there was REALLY REALLY young.  Heh, made me feel old.  Our tour included a visit to the "Health and Wellness Center" (I'm sure I didn't get that name exactly correct but either way it's not to be confused with the gym) which was basically a room with empty bookshelves.  Heh, I think it was supposed to be a library of some sort.  I wonder who the lucky person is who gets to dust those empty shelves...  They had an alma mater board on which I was perversely pleased to be the first to write the University of North Dakota right there next to all the California and Ivy League schools :)

The MLK Library in San Jose was a rather nifty library.  In case you're not aware it's a combined library for the city of San Jose and for San Jose State University.  It has one of those open in the center of the floor designs (you know, you can look over the balcony and see all the other floors) that I have to say I don't really like.  Maybe it's because that design allows sound to spread throughout the library so very efficiently and I don't enjoy hearing the screaming children from four floors down.  The two highlights for me were 1) the lock of Beethoven's hair they have and 2) the nifty real-time sign indicating how many items have been checked out (it's like a population clock, only coooooler :).

It took us over three hours to get back to Sacramento.  Heh, but there were three of us in the car so it was the carpool lane for us.  And I even discovered to my joy that during carpool hours, automobiles with 3+ people don't have to pay the toll on the Martinez (Martina? whatever) Bridge.  It's a small thing to be happy about, but when stuck in traffic for hours on end you have plenty of time to appreciate things like that.

Happiness and joy!!!  Crimson Spell, one of my favorite yaoi mangas has been licensed in the US.  Yay!  Kinda sucks that it's by Kitty Media (their books are phycially smaller than I really like) but that's not going to stop me from snapping it up as soon as it's released.  Heh, maybe it worked when I begged the Kitty Media guy to license it at Yaoicon last year?  Ok, me and probably a million other people.

In other news I feel I'm going to be buying even more English language yaoi now that DMP announced a new "sister company" - 801 Media  - for "mature readers."  Heh, I'm a mature reader.  [personal profile] wateriswine, you can expect me to drag you to their launch party at yaoicon ^__^

Finally, Ikoku Irokoi Romantan (by the same author as Crimson Spell) is being turned into an OVA.  And Okane ga Nai will be an anime series.  Both titles are pretty smutty, the second one is particularly, um well, not exactly consensual so I wonder if they're going to be watered down.  Especially Okane ga nai.  You know I can't wait to find out!!!   Okane ga nai has been going on what feels like forever now (I found it very, very soon after I discovered yaoi) and I'm hoping, hoping, HOPING I'll finally get an ending.  I do so love those too.
