Despite all the hideous reviews, I made [personal profile] wateriswinesee The Fountain with me on Saturday.  I'm totally ok with admitting that I enjoyed the movie.  Maybe it's because I never try to look too deep for meaning (my lj user name says it all) and maybe it's because I'm  happy to just enjoy the visual prettiness of a movie.  And there was much visual prettiness, tons and tons of visual textures for me to wallow in.  Maybe I also enjoyed it because it reminded me of a book I read in high school which I also didn't understand very well but was apparently about the circle of life.  Um, I'm thinking they were both about the circle of life.  Maybe. I don't really know for sure.  I'm waiting for [personal profile] wateriswineto write an enlightening entry on the topic :)

Last night a couple of work peoples and non work peoples got together for some sushi.  Mmmmmm, I had the 911 roll and it was yuuuummmmmy!  I can't really recall what was in it, but whatever fishy thing it was didn't taste fishy (maybe it wasn't even fish!) so extra yum.

Maybe all the spices went to my head because after eating I went with wateriswine to the Blue Lamp for an evening of dark gothy, dancy music.  Um, ebm?  Dark wave?  I think that was the genre.  But it was a Tuesday night in Sacto, so let's just say the place wasn't exactly hoppin'.  I swear by the end of the evening there were probably about seven people who weren't band management/sound crew still there.  Heh, small crowd, indeed. The "bands" sounded surprisingly good (sound system wise, I mean) and I really loved a couple of the songs and generally enjoyed the rest.  But that place was cold!  And the singer for the last band (I hesitate to call them the "headliners" :) burned a huge wad of incense during the entire set.  Oy!  But I'm always happy with a night of good tunes and cheap alcohol.  Oh, and I'll probably never get the lyric "acid tongue" out of my head.  Ever.  Thanks wateriswine.

I'd previously seen evidence that the makers of Barbie have gone mad (evidence).  But now, I'm absolutely convinced of it: Fairytopia™ Rainbow Adventure Elina™ -  "Rainbow Adventure Elina™ interacts with a DVD game acting as the remote control in an exciting adventure. "  Shouldn't that be called "Remote Control Barbie"?

What ever happened to the Barbie I used to know and love?  Heh, you know Barbies, that had mechanical kissing action.  Or, lit up like lamps.  Hmm, ok, so maybe it's more a case of the more things change the more they stay the same.
