direct democracy is hard
Oct. 6th, 2008 04:05 pmI got my California voter guide a few weeks ago and I'm here once again to whine about California elections. This year the election booklet which contains text of propositions, pros, cons, and rebuttals, was a whopping 144 pages long! Then Prop 1 got litigated (already!!) so they had to send a second, corrected voter guide for that situation. ARG!!! Buried in the middle of the voter booklet is an analysis of California's current bond debt load. Jesus, it blows my mind that they even have to have that in there. Of course, I think responsible voters need this type of information so they can make information decisions, but how many people are really going to read all that info?
Am I the only one frustrated with all these stupid things we're voting on? I think there are twelve statewide propositions and two local measures. For example, do I really, really have to vote on parental notification before abortions AGAIN? And that debt-load information? What do they really expect us to do with that? Vote fiscally sound? Or vote what you feel is right and screw the fiscal consequences?
Anyway, if I'm not posting a lot it's because I'm studying for the November election. *Grr*
